After the Badminton World Federation (BWF) cancelled its World Tour events in Hong Kong and Macau, the BWF World Tour Finals will be held in Guangzhou from December 14 to 18.
Hong Kong was supposed to host a Super 500 event, and Macau was supposed to host a Super 300 tournament. Both events were cancelled due to strict COVID-19 restrictions.
Badminton Players Qualified For BWF World Tour Finals Will Be Confirmed In November
The BWF World Tour Finals will be held at the Tianhe Stadium and have the biggest prize pool ever seen in badminton – $1.5million.
BWF will be partnering with the Chinese Badminton Association, Guangzhou City Government, and our principal partner HSBC, to bring the World Tour Finals back to Guangzhou.
Guangzhou has staged two spectacular editions of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in 2018 and 2019.
Badminton players who will be qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals will be confirmed after the Australian Open, which is held from November 15 to 20.
China’s hosting of international sporting events has been irregular since the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. A few sports events will be postponed, such as Nanjing 2023 World Athletics Indoor Championships, Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, and Asian Para Games.
